Youth and climate: who decides the future? Read the first two parts of our COP30 report

Hello,

Who decides the future of the climate? And where do peripheral youth voices stand in this debate?

The first two parts of our special COP30 report are now available. The series brings together testimonies, analyses, and lived experiences of young people from Belém (PA) and from peripheral territories who experience the impacts of the climate crisis firsthand — yet remain far from decision-making spaces.

🗣️🌱 Part 1

COP30: Youth from Belém (PA) and peripheral territories demand greater participation in climate discussions

This article exposes the barriers, disputes, and contradictions surrounding youth participation in the Climate Conference. Even as the host city of COP30, Belém is home to young people who followed the event from a distance, with limited access to the debates shaping their own futures.

🌱 Part 2

Youth at COP30: growing presence, still far from real protagonism

In this second piece, young people who attended COP30 reflect on both the advances and the limits of youth participation. While some doors have opened, children, adolescents, and youth remain largely excluded from the decisions that shape their futures. Activist voices speak about representation, climate impacts, and struggles for Climate Justice.

🔎 What’s coming next

In the third and final part, still to be published, we listen to young residents of Belém who did not participate in COP30. What was it like to host a global climate conference while remaining distant from its decision-making centers? We conclude the series by sharing our impressions, challenges, and opportunities experienced during the Conference.

📌 Stay tuned for the next publication.

This reporting series was produced by Gabriel Razo da Cunha, with contributions from Sidneia Chagas, Wesley Matos, and Gabriel Lima, from Vozes Daqui de Parelheiros (IBEAC) and Coletivo Encrespades, for Educação e Território – Cidade Escola Aprendiz.

Enjoy the reading, and let’s keep building the fight for climate justice together. 🌎✊
