IBEAC hosts participants of the 1st International Conference on Social Technologies of Memory in Parelheiros

The Brazilian Institute of Community Studies and Support (IBEAC) welcomed participants of the 1st International Conference on Social Technologies of Memory to Parelheiros, bringing together people from different regions of Brazil and from countries around the world, including Australia, Belgium, Colombia, the United States, France, Guatemala, Greece, England, and Lithuania, as well as representatives from Araraquara, Crato (CE), and Peruíbe. The visit provided an immersion into the projects developed by IBEAC and CPCD, fostering connections between stories, knowledge, and community-based practices. 🌎

🎨 The program included conversation circles, visits to key spaces in the territory, screenings of local memories, and creative workshops that transformed collective dreams into artistic expression, strengthening bonds and expanding perspectives on community action. 🌱

🍃 The gathering created a meaningful dialogue between memory and the environment, reaffirming the strength of the Parelheiros territory and the role of communities in preserving knowledge, histories, and ways of life. 💬

The visit was part of the program of the 1st International Conference on Social Technologies of Memory, held throughout October and November 2025, with virtual and in-person activities in São Paulo. The conference is organized by the Museum of the Person (Museu da Pessoa), through the Memory and Heritage Culture Hub, in partnership with the Sesc Research and Training Center and StoryCenter (USA). The event brings together researchers, educators, artists, activists, and professionals from diverse fields to reflect on a central question: how can Social Technologies of Memory inspire action in a world in crisis?

A landmark in discussions on memory, climate justice, and culture, the conference is also part of the 12th International Conference on Digital Storytelling, held for the first time in the Global South.

💛 Our special thanks to the Museum of the Person and Sesc for the partnership and the collective construction of this meaningful experience.
