Evaluating for Transformation: Four Years of Lessons Learned for Systemic Change

In 2026, IBEAC celebrates the closing of an important cycle and the beginning of a new chapter in its institutional journey. Over the past four years, with the support of Imaginable Futures, we engaged in a collaborative process focused on deepening our work in participatory monitoring and evaluation.

Alongside Ensina Brasil, Cidade Escola Aprendiz, Instituto Elos, CEERT, and Ashoka Brasil, we immersed ourselves in an intense collective learning experience. More than developing tools and methodologies, we lived a process aligned with what truly drives us: participation as both principle and practice. For IBEAC, participation is not just a method — it is part of our identity.

Throughout this journey, we learned, created, researched, monitored, evaluated, and celebrated together. Engaging with organizations committed to systemic change strengthened our work and reinforced our desire to build increasingly collaborative and transformative actions.

As a result of this process, two highly significant internal research initiatives were developed. The first evaluated the work of community-based mobilizing mothers in the territory, recognizing their impacts, challenges, and contributions to strengthening the community. The second — currently underway — examines how, over its 18 years of work, IBEAC has been fulfilling its mission to promote participatory citizenship in Parelheiros. This effort represents a meaningful opportunity to reflect inward, systematize learning, and reaffirm commitments.

Imaginable Futures was a key partner throughout this journey, encouraging us to enhance our processes with freedom, depth, respect, and a forward-looking perspective. We extend our special thanks to Nathalie Zogbi, Bruna Viana, Marina Apgar, Irene, and Aline Rocha for guiding this process with attentiveness, rigor, and care.

This journey has also led to the creation of the Community of Practice in Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation for Systemic Change (COMAPAS), envisioned as a space for continued exchange, learning, and collective strengthening.

A cycle comes to a close, consolidating lessons learned and evidence gathered. A new one begins, expanding horizons and reaffirming our commitment to participatory citizenship. We move forward in network, strengthening territories and transforming realities.
